The West Bengal government announced that today 1.58 crore eligible women will receive a direct cash transfer of ₹3,000 each under the Annapurna Yojana.

The state government of West Bengal has initiated the latest tranche of its Annapurna Yojana, a welfare scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to women from economically vulnerable households. Launched in 2022, the programme seeks to improve nutrition and health outcomes by delivering regular cash transfers.

According to the announcement, 1.58 crore women will receive ₹3,000 each today, amounting to a total outlay of roughly ₹4,740 crore. The payments are being credited directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts through the state’s digital payment platform, ensuring swift and transparent delivery.

State officials highlighted that the disbursement aligns with the government's commitment to bolster household purchasing power ahead of the festive season. They also noted that the scheme complements other social security measures such as the Kanyashree and Sabuj Sathi programmes.

The rollout is expected to reach women across urban, semi‑urban and rural districts, with particular focus on those identified in the Socio‑Economic Caste Census. Monitoring agencies will verify the impact of the cash infusion on nutrition indicators in the coming months.
