The West Bengal Medical Council has been ordered to investigate after allegations emerged that some doctors possess forged qualifications.

The West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) has come under scrutiny following reports that a number of medical practitioners in the state may be holding forged qualifications. The council received multiple complaints and, in response, the state health department has directed WBMC to launch a formal probe into the matter.

Investigators are expected to verify the authenticity of medical degrees submitted for registration and to identify any irregularities in the council's verification process. Sources familiar with the case said that the probe could also examine whether any external agencies were involved in supplying counterfeit certificates.

If the investigation confirms the presence of fake degrees, the council may suspend or cancel the registration of the implicated doctors, thereby preventing them from practicing medicine in West Bengal. The move aims to safeguard public health and restore confidence in the state's medical regulatory framework.

The WBMC has issued a brief statement acknowledging the allegations and assuring that it will cooperate fully with the authorities. No further details have been released pending the outcome of the inquiry.
