Effective today, the West Bengal government has announced a steep reduction in retail liquor prices, including lower rates for several beer brands.
The state’s excise department issued a notice that, starting today, the retail price of alcoholic beverages will be reduced significantly across West Bengal. The directive covers a wide range of spirits as well as selected beer brands, aiming to bring down the cost for consumers.
According to the announcement, the price revision follows the periodic review mandated by state regulations. Retailers are required to adjust their price lists immediately, and the new rates will be reflected on store shelves and in official price boards.
Industry observers expect the cut to boost sales volumes, especially for beer, which has seen steady demand in urban centres. The government has not disclosed the exact percentage of the reduction, but the wording suggests a noticeable dip for most products.
Consumers in major towns have begun reporting the lower prices, noting that the change could make occasional drinking more affordable for a broader segment of the population.
