West Bengal has announced stricter guidelines for the immersion of Durga idols, while Kolkata authorities have increased security measures ahead of the festival.
West Bengal has introduced new regulations governing the immersion of Durga idols, aiming to streamline the process and address environmental concerns. The guidelines will be enforced during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
In response, Kolkata police have stepped up security measures across major immersion sites, deploying additional officers and setting up checkpoints to ensure public safety.
Officials say the combined measures will preserve the cultural significance of the festival while mitigating risks associated with large crowds and pollution.
The new rules and heightened security are expected to take effect from the start of the immersion ceremonies in September.
