The West Bengal government is reviewing the high‑school semester system and may switch back to the traditional annual exam format.

The West Bengal government has announced a review of the high‑school semester system implemented by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE). Officials said the review will examine the effectiveness of the semester structure and its impact on student performance. If the review finds the semester system unsuitable, the government may revert to the annual examination pattern that has been in place for decades. The decision will affect the 2024‑25 academic year and will be communicated to schools and students once finalized.
