West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced a new 'look east' policy aimed at deepening economic engagement with East Asian nations and attracting investment to the state.

West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta unveiled a "look east" policy designed to strengthen the state's economic ties with East Asian economies. The initiative seeks to position Bengal as a strategic gateway for trade, investment and technology collaboration with countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore and China.

The policy outlines priority sectors including manufacturing, information technology, logistics and renewable energy. It calls for targeted incentives, streamlined approvals and dedicated liaison offices to facilitate foreign direct investment and joint ventures.

State officials expect the programme to generate new jobs, boost export volumes and diversify Bengal's industrial base over the next five years. By aligning with regional supply chains, the government aims to enhance the state's competitiveness on the global stage.
