More than 4,500 dengue infections have been recorded in West Bengal, with over 500 additional cases reported in the past seven days, according to Mid-Day.

West Bengal's health authorities have confirmed that the state’s dengue count has crossed the 4,500 mark, driven by more than 500 fresh infections reported in the last week, the media outlet Mid-Day reported.
The state health department said it is intensifying vector‑control operations, including fogging and larvicidal measures, in districts where the surge is most pronounced. Officials have also urged hospitals to remain on high alert and ensure adequate bed capacity for severe cases.
Dengue typically peaks during the monsoon and post‑monsoon months, and the recent rise underscores the need for community participation. Residents are being reminded to eliminate standing water in containers, flower pots and discarded tyres to curb mosquito breeding.
Health experts caution that early detection and prompt medical attention are crucial to reducing complications. The department has launched awareness campaigns through local media and social platforms, emphasizing the importance of using repellents and seeking immediate care for fever and joint pain.
