A team of officials and experts led by West Bengal cabinet minister Dilip Ghosh arrived in Indore to examine the city’s acclaimed sanitation system, with plans to replicate it in Bengal.

Indore, long recognised for its high standards of urban cleanliness, welcomed a delegation from West Bengal on Monday. The group, headed by cabinet minister Dilip Ghosh, includes senior officials and sanitation experts who will spend two to three days touring the city’s waste‑management infrastructure, street‑cleaning operations and community engagement programmes.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the feasibility of adapting Indore’s model for West Bengal’s own urban centres. Authorities from both states expect the exchange to provide practical insights on solid‑waste segregation, door‑to‑door collection, and the use of technology in monitoring cleanliness.

Indore’s municipal corporation has previously highlighted its achievements in national rankings, attributing success to a combination of strict enforcement, citizen participation and innovative public‑private partnerships. The Bengal team plans to compile a detailed report that could inform a pilot rollout in select cities of the eastern state.

Local officials said the visit underscores growing inter‑state collaboration on civic issues and signals a commitment to replicating best practices across India’s urban landscape.
