Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hand out appointment letters to 309 newly selected Kolkata police personnel today, expanding the force's strength.
Kolkata police will receive 309 fresh recruits on the scheduled date, as part of the state government's ongoing effort to bolster law‑enforcement capacity in the metropolis. The appointment ceremony is set to be conducted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who will present the official letters to the selected candidates.
The new personnel have cleared a rigorous selection process that included written examinations, physical fitness tests and background verification. They are expected to undergo a standard training programme at the Police Training Academy before being posted to various police stations across the city.
A spokesperson for the Chief Minister's office said the addition of these officers will help address the growing demands of public safety and crime prevention in Kolkata, especially in high‑traffic areas and during upcoming civic events.
The recruitment drive, announced earlier this year, aims to fill vacancies created by retirements and to strengthen the police presence in neighborhoods that have reported higher crime rates in recent months.
