The West Bengal government has released a set of guidelines aimed at regulating work hours and ensuring prompt wage payments for the state's film sector.

Kolkata, Oct 30 — The West Bengal administration unveiled a comprehensive framework intended to standardise working conditions in the regional film industry. The guidelines stipulate maximum daily work hours for cast and crew, aiming to curb excessive overtime and promote occupational safety.

A key provision mandates that all wages be disbursed within a stipulated timeframe, addressing long‑standing concerns over delayed payments that have affected many production houses and freelancers. The government said the measures will be monitored by a dedicated cell within the state's Information and Cultural Affairs Department.

Industry bodies have been invited to review the draft and provide feedback before final implementation. Officials emphasized that the rules are designed to foster a more sustainable and professional environment, thereby attracting greater investment to Bengal's thriving cinema sector.

The announcement aligns with broader state efforts to modernise creative industries while safeguarding workers' rights. Further details on compliance procedures are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
