A 30‑year‑old welder from Gopalganj district in Bihar was travelling back to his home state after being assaulted at a construction site in Karnataka. According to local police, the worker was verbally abused and physically attacked after being called a ‘Bihari’, a term that sparked the confrontation. He sustained serious injuries and was placed on a stretcher for transport to Bihar. While on the way, the victim’s condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead before reaching the state border. Authorities in Karnataka have opened a criminal case, and the incident is being investigated as a possible hate‑crime, with officials urging swift action against the perpetrators.
