The first phase of voting for 97 wards across Banswara and Dungarpur municipal councils started on Wednesday, with 183 candidates in the fray.

Polling officials completed all preparations for the first phase of the municipal elections in the Vagda region of Rajasthan on Tuesday, deploying teams to the designated polling stations in Banswara and Dungarpur. On Wednesday, voters in 97 wards cast their ballots, determining the fate of 183 candidates contesting seats in the two councils.
The election, overseen by the state election commission, marks the initial round of a multi‑stage process that will decide local governance for the two towns. Security personnel and election staff were positioned at each booth to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process.
Election observers noted that the turnout in the early phase could set the tone for subsequent rounds, as local issues such as water supply, road maintenance and municipal services dominate the campaign agenda.
The results, expected to be announced after the counting of votes later this week, will shape the composition of the Banswara and Dungarpur municipal bodies for the next five years.
The voting exercise underscores the importance of grassroots democracy in Rajasthan, where municipal councils play a crucial role in delivering basic civic amenities to residents.
