In Narmadapuram, a low water level of about three feet on the Narmada River forced villagers to carry a deceased person across the river during a final journey.
In the town of Narmadapuram, residents of the Sivani Malwa area were confronted with a sudden rise in the Narmada River’s water level to approximately three feet. The modest depth made it difficult for the usual ferry service to operate safely. During what was described as a "last journey" across the river, villagers were compelled to physically carry a deceased body from one bank to the other.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, when the river’s flow was still sluggish. Local authorities reported that the low water level prevented the deployment of a standard boat, prompting the community to step in. The body, belonging to a resident of the nearby village, was transported by hand across the shallow stretch.
Officials from the district’s water resources department have stated that they are monitoring the river’s conditions closely. They also mentioned that emergency services will be on standby in case further incidents arise due to fluctuating water levels.
