A group of villagers in Tokna Beda, a hamlet in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, allegedly assaulted a young man they suspected of committing a theft. According to video footage that later went viral, the men beat the suspect, placed a wooden box on his head and forced him to walk through the village in a half‑naked state.
The incident sparked outrage on social media, prompting the local police to detain the accused individual for questioning. Authorities also announced that they would investigate the role of the villagers who carried out the public humiliation.
Police officials said the investigation will determine whether any criminal charges can be filed against the participants in the mob and will assess the legality of the suspect’s arrest following the vigilante act.
