The state government led by Chief Minister Vijay has identified two possible locations for a new airport, following the cancellation of the earlier Parandur proposal.

The administration headed by Chief Minister Vijay announced that it has narrowed down two potential sites for a new airport, marking a shift from the previously approved Parandur location. The decision comes after the Parandur project was shelved due to concerns over land acquisition and environmental clearances. Officials said the shortlisted locations meet the technical criteria for runway length, connectivity and future traffic demand.

The government has formed a technical committee to conduct detailed feasibility studies on the two sites. The committee will assess factors such as soil stability, proximity to existing transport corridors and the impact on local communities. Findings are expected to be presented to the cabinet within the next few weeks.

If approved, the new airport is projected to boost regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity, especially in sectors like tourism and logistics. The authorities have indicated that the project will follow a public‑private partnership model to attract investment and ensure timely execution.
