The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) has announced a comprehensive policy aimed at strengthening professional volleyball leagues across the country, outlining new guidelines for league operations, player contracts and development pathways.

The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) today announced a new policy designed to professionalise the country’s volleyball leagues. The policy sets out a framework for club licensing, player registration, salary caps and broadcasting rights, with the aim of raising the standard of competition and attracting greater sponsorship.

Key provisions include mandatory club licensing that requires teams to meet financial, infrastructural and youth development criteria. A salary cap will be introduced to ensure financial sustainability and parity among clubs, while a structured player contract system will protect athletes’ rights.

The policy also establishes a national development pathway, mandating clubs to run youth academies and provide coaching education. Implementation will begin with the upcoming season, with VFI monitoring compliance through annual audits.

Officials say the new framework will create clearer career prospects for players, enhance the marketability of the sport and help India compete more effectively on the international stage.
