Mining conglomerate Vedanta Ltd is weighing a Rs 80,000 crore investment plan in West Bengal, according to its founder Anil Agarwal.

Vedanta Ltd, one of India's leading mining and metal producers, is reportedly exploring a massive capital outlay of Rs 80,000 crore in the state of West Bengal. The proposal was disclosed by the company's founder, Anil Agarwal, during a recent interaction with the media.

The investment, if confirmed, would rank among the largest private sector commitments in the region and could span multiple sectors such as mineral extraction, power generation and related infrastructure. Vedanta has not released a detailed project plan, but the statement signals a strategic interest in leveraging West Bengal's resource base.

State officials have welcomed the prospect, noting that a large-scale infusion of capital could generate significant employment and boost the local economy. Further discussions are expected to clarify the scope, timelines and regulatory clearances required for the project.

Anil Agarwal emphasized that Vedanta's decision will be guided by a thorough feasibility assessment and alignment with the state's development goals. No final agreement has been signed as of now.
