The Indian Army’s Vajra Corps marked its 76th Raising Day on Tuesday with a parade and tribute to soldiers who defended Punjab during the 1947 Partition.
The Vajra Corps, officially the 5th Infantry Division, celebrated its 76th Raising Day on Tuesday at its headquarters in Amritsar. The ceremony was attended by senior army officers and veterans.
A 21‑gun salute and a march‑past by the division’s infantry, artillery and engineers highlighted the unit’s readiness. The event also featured a display of the Corps’ insignia and a tribute to soldiers who defended Punjab during the 1947 Partition.
Brigadier (Retd.) S. K. Sharma, who served with the Corps, spoke about the division’s legacy and its role in maintaining peace along the border. He urged the new generation of soldiers to uphold the Corps’ motto of “Defenders of Punjab.”
The raising day marked the anniversary of the Corps’ formation on 1 July 1947, making it one of the oldest formations in the Indian Army. The event concluded with a flag‑raising ceremony and a promise of continued vigilance.
