Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off India's first salt container train operating in Gujarat, marking a new milestone in bulk salt logistics.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off India's first salt container train in Gujarat, introducing a dedicated containerised service for transporting salt. The initiative aims to modernise the movement of bulk salt from Gujarat's production hubs to demand centres across the country.

By shifting salt transport to containers, the service is expected to reduce transit losses, improve handling efficiency and ensure cleaner delivery compared with traditional open loading methods. Gujarat is a major salt-producing state, and the new train service strengthens its logistics link with national markets.

The flag-off marks a significant step in expanding specialised freight services on Indian Railways, supporting both producers and consumers through a more organised supply chain for an essential commodity.
