The Uttarakhand government has launched intensified inspections and raids to curb food adulteration and hoarding as the festive season approaches.

The state administration announced a heightened enforcement drive aimed at preventing the adulteration of essential food items and the hoarding of supplies ahead of the upcoming festive period. Officials said the move is intended to protect consumers from substandard products and ensure adequate market availability during the high‑demand season.

Under the operation, food‑safety officers and law‑enforcement teams will conduct surprise inspections at wholesale markets, retail outlets and storage facilities across Uttarakhand. Any entity found violating the Food Safety and Standards Act or engaging in illegal stockpiling will face penalties, including fines and possible closure of premises.

State Food Safety Commissioner Amit Kumar (name illustrative) indicated that the crackdown will be coordinated with the police and the district administration to cover all major districts. The authorities expect the initiative to deter unscrupulous traders and reassure the public that essential commodities will reach households without compromise on quality.
