Uttarakhand rescue teams resume search for eight missing trekkers on Kedartal trail

Rescue teams in Uttarakhand have resumed the hunt for eight trekkers who vanished while attempting the Kedartal trek, a high‑altitude trail that leads to the pristine Kedartal lake near the Gangotri Glacier. The missing group was reported lost earlier this week, prompting an initial search that was temporarily halted due to deteriorating weather.

State disaster response units, assisted by local volunteers and forest officials, are now combing the rugged terrain, employing helicopters and ground patrols to cover the remote valleys and steep passes. Officials say the area’s unpredictable weather and thin air make the operation particularly challenging.

Family members of the trekkers have been urged to remain patient as authorities continue the systematic sweep. The rescue effort underscores the risks associated with high‑altitude trekking in the Himalayas and the need for proper preparation and real‑time weather monitoring.
