A systematic revision of Uttarakhand's electoral roll eliminated about nine lakh entries, leaving 71.59 lakh registered voters.

The State Election Commission of Uttarakhand has completed a systematic revision (SIR) of the state's electoral roll, removing roughly nine lakh names that were identified as duplicates, deceased or otherwise ineligible.

Following the deletions, the updated roll now records 71.59 lakh registered voters across the state, a figure that will form the basis for upcoming elections.

Election officials said the exercise is intended to enhance the accuracy of the roll and curb potential electoral fraud. They have opened a window for objections and verification before the final list is formally published.

The move aligns with the Election Commission of India's broader effort to clean up voter lists nationwide ahead of the next general elections.
