The state government of Uttarakhand has formally ordered a ban on the operation of loud sound systems, including speakers and amplifiers, in the vicinity of Badrinath Dham and other religious shrines in Chamoli district. Badrinath, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage centres, draws large numbers of devotees throughout the year. The new directive extends the same restrictions to additional temples and shrines across Chamoli, aiming to preserve the spiritual ambience for pilgrims.
Local police, along with temple management committees, have been tasked with monitoring compliance. Violations are expected to attract penalties as stipulated under the order. Officials indicated that similar noise‑control measures have been implemented at other major pilgrimage locations in the country to balance worship practices with environmental concerns.
