The Uttarakhand government has unveiled a new homestay scheme offering subsidies of up to Rs 15 lakh to eligible entrepreneurs, aiming to boost tourism and local employment.

The Uttarakhand government has introduced a homestay development scheme that offers subsidies of up to Rs 15 lakh to eligible applicants. The scheme targets small and medium‑sized entrepreneurs who wish to set up or upgrade homestays in tourist hotspots across the state.

To qualify, applicants must be Indian citizens, own a business registered under the Companies Act or a proprietorship, and have a minimum annual turnover of Rs 5 lakh. The subsidy covers a portion of the cost of construction, furnishing, and basic amenities, with the government covering up to 70% of the approved expenditure.

Applications can be filed online through the official Uttarakhand tourism portal between 1 April and 30 June. Applicants need to submit a business plan, financial statements, and a detailed cost estimate. The state tourism department will review proposals within 45 days and announce winners in early September.

The scheme aims to create jobs for local communities, promote cultural tourism, and generate additional revenue for the state’s tourism sector.
