The Uttarakhand administration has sealed 20 madrasas that lack official recognition in the cities of Dehradun and Haldwani, citing non‑compliance with state education regulations.
The education department of Uttarakhand has ordered the sealing of twenty madrasas that are not listed under the state’s recognised school system. Officials carried out the action in Dehradun and Haldwani after issuing notices that the institutions failed to obtain the mandatory affiliation and did not meet prescribed infrastructure standards.
According to a departmental statement, the unrecognised madrasas were operating without the required approvals, thereby violating the Uttarakhand School Education Act. The seals were placed on the premises, and the schools have been instructed to cease all teaching activities until they secure proper recognition.
The government said the crackdown is part of a broader effort to ensure that all educational establishments, including religious schools, adhere to uniform quality and safety norms. Further inspections are planned across the state to identify any other institutions that may be operating outside the legal framework.
