Election officials have noted that four plains districts in Uttarakhand are responsible for 85% of all Form-7 applications seeking deletion of voter names. The disproportionate figure has triggered a review to understand the underlying causes.
Form-7 is the application used to request the removal of a name from the electoral roll. Recent data shows that four plains districts in the state together account for 85% of such submissions, a share far higher than their proportion of the total electorate.
Officials said they are analysing the data to determine whether the high number reflects genuine voter migration, duplicate entries, or any procedural irregularities. They emphasized that the exercise is routine and aimed at maintaining an accurate voter list.
At this stage, no allegations of fraud or malpractice have been made. The Election Commission’s state unit is monitoring the trend and may issue additional guidelines if needed to ensure transparency in the deletion process.
