The Uttarakhand Election Roll Officer initially rejected a batch of Form‑7 objections filed by a BJP worker, but after a complaint to the Election Commission of India, 5,359 of those objections were approved.
The Election Roll Officer (ERO) in Uttarakhand recently turned down a large set of Form‑7 objections submitted by a worker affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Form‑7 objections pertain to corrections or additions in the electoral roll, and the bulk filing was rejected outright by the district officer.
The BJP worker, seeking to update or correct voter entries, lodged the objections en masse, expecting the ERO to process them individually. Dissatisfied with the refusal, the worker approached the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging procedural lapses.
Following the ECI’s review, the commission directed the Uttarakhand ERO to reconsider the filings. As a result, 5,359 of the previously rejected objections were accepted, allowing the corresponding entries to be amended in the electoral roll.
The decision underscores the oversight role of the ECI in ensuring that electoral roll corrections are handled transparently and in line with statutory guidelines, without influencing any political outcome.
