The Uttarakhand government announced that the state has achieved full literacy, joining five other Indian states in this milestone.

The Uttarakhand government has officially declared the state fully literate, marking it as the sixth Indian state to reach this benchmark. The announcement was made following the latest literacy assessment conducted by state authorities, which confirmed that every adult in the region can read and write.

State officials highlighted that the achievement results from sustained investment in primary education, adult literacy drives, and the expansion of digital learning resources across remote districts. Programs aimed at enrolling out‑of‑school children and providing evening classes for adults have been cited as key contributors.

The declaration has been welcomed by education experts who see it as a catalyst for further socio‑economic development in the Himalayan state. The chief minister praised the collective effort of teachers, NGOs and community volunteers, and pledged to maintain the momentum by strengthening higher‑education infrastructure and skill‑development initiatives.
