Uttarakhand Chief Minister inaugurated a special train bound for Veraval, Gujarat, as part of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations.
New Delhi – The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand officially flagged off a dedicated train heading to Veraval in Gujarat on Thursday, marking the launch of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv pilgrimage drive. The ceremony was held at the state capital, where the minister highlighted the cultural and spiritual importance of the Somnath temple for devotees across the country.
The special service is scheduled to run weekly during the festival period, providing a direct rail link for pilgrims from the northern states to the historic shrine on the Arabian Sea coast. Railway officials said the train will be equipped with basic amenities and will carry approximately 500 passengers per trip.
State authorities view the initiative as a step to boost religious tourism and strengthen inter‑state connectivity. The CM urged travelers to observe safety norms and respect local customs at the destination.
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv, organized by the Gujarat tourism department, commemorates the restoration of the ancient temple and aims to attract a larger influx of visitors during the upcoming weeks.
