Uttarakhand CM Announces Free Bus Travel for Women Aged 60+

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared that women aged 60 and above will ride state buses free of charge, alongside several new welfare schemes.
Dehradun, Uttarakhand – In a press conference held today, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami unveiled a scheme that will allow senior women, aged 60 and above, to travel on state-run buses without paying any fare. The move is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance mobility for senior citizens and reduce their financial burden.
Under the new policy, eligible women will need to present a valid age proof and a government‑issued identity document to obtain a free travel pass. The pass will be valid across all Uttarakhand Road Transport Corporation (URTC) services, including regular, semi‑luxury and special pilgrimage routes.
Alongside the senior‑women travel benefit, the CM announced a bundle of additional welfare initiatives aimed at health, pension and skill development for the elderly and vulnerable sections of society. Details of these schemes will be released through official channels in the coming days.
State officials said the transport department will update its ticketing system to accommodate the free‑travel passes and that the scheme is expected to boost public‑transport usage among senior women, promoting greater independence and social inclusion.
