Meteorological officials say Uttar Pradesh will experience a dry spell for the next seven days after the recent showers ended, while residents of Lucknow continue to contend with water‑logged streets, mud and a lingering stench.

The state weather department has issued a forecast indicating that Uttar Pradesh will remain dry for the coming seven days, following the cessation of monsoon showers that had affected large parts of the region earlier this week.

In Lucknow, the capital city, the sudden halt in rain has left many neighborhoods with water‑logged roads and thick mud, creating difficult commuting conditions for commuters and public transport operators.

Residents have also reported a strong, unpleasant odor emanating from stagnant water in low‑lying areas and paddy fields on the city’s outskirts, raising health concerns among local communities.

Municipal authorities said they are deploying additional drainage pumps and cleaning crews to clear clogged drains and reduce the foul smell, while urging citizens to avoid standing water wherever possible.

The dry spell is expected to aid agricultural activities in the state, but officials caution that the lingering mud and odor could persist until drainage systems are fully cleared.
