The Uttar Pradesh government has engaged Indian Institutes of Technology to independently audit infrastructure works worth more than Rs 100 crore, covering roads, bridges and sewer lines.

The state administration announced that a team of experts from the Indian Institutes of Technology will examine the financial and technical aspects of ongoing infrastructure projects exceeding Rs 100 crore. The audit will focus on recently undertaken road constructions, bridge works and sewerage networks to verify compliance with quality standards and budgetary allocations.

Officials said the move aims to enhance transparency and curb cost overruns in public works, a concern that has surfaced in several large‑scale projects across the state. The IIT panels will conduct site inspections, review tender documents and assess the execution status of each project.

The decision, disclosed by the Uttar Pradesh government, reflects a broader strategy to involve premier technical institutions in governance matters. Findings from the audit are expected to be presented to the state cabinet later this year, potentially influencing future project approvals and funding.

Stakeholders, including contractors and local authorities, have been asked to cooperate fully with the audit teams. The initiative underscores the administration's commitment to accountability in the delivery of essential infrastructure for citizens.
