The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the monthly stipend for medical interns will be increased to Rs 25,000, effectively doubling the previous amount.
The health department of Uttar Pradesh has approved a hike in the monthly allowance paid to medical interns, raising it to Rs 25,000. The decision, announced this week, will take effect from the start of the next academic session.
Earlier, interns received a stipend of Rs 12,500 per month, a figure that had remained unchanged for several years. The increase is intended to bring the remuneration in line with the cost of living and to make the internship more financially viable for young doctors.
State officials said the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen medical education in Uttar Pradesh and to retain talent within the state's public health system. The higher stipend is expected to improve morale among interns and encourage more graduates to serve in government hospitals.
Implementation will be overseen by the Directorate of Medical Education, which will ensure that all teaching hospitals disburse the revised amount without delay.
