The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have announced plans to increase the number of bus routes and fleet size to improve connectivity across the two states.
The transport ministries of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar disclosed a joint initiative to add new bus routes linking major towns and rural hubs in both states. The scheme aims to augment the existing fleet with additional modern buses, thereby reducing travel time and easing congestion on highways.
Officials said the expansion will focus on high‑demand corridors, including routes between Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna and Gorakhpur. Enhanced services are expected to benefit commuters, traders and tourists by offering more frequent and reliable connections.
Funding for the project will come from state budgets and central government subsidies under the National Urban Transport Programme. The rollout is slated to begin in the next fiscal year, with the first phase targeting 200 new buses and 50 additional routes.
State transport officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve regional mobility and support economic growth in the Indo‑Gangetic plain.
