The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that state-employed doctors can choose to work beyond the normal retirement age up to 70 years.

Uttar Pradesh's health administration has introduced a new provision permitting doctors in the state civil service to extend their tenure until the age of 70, beyond the usual retirement threshold. The scheme is voluntary and is open to doctors who have already retired but wish to continue contributing to public health services. Eligibility will be determined by the health department based on factors such as medical fitness and the availability of positions. Officials said the extension will be on a contractual basis and will not alter the pension benefits already accrued by the doctors. The policy aims to mitigate the chronic shortage of senior medical professionals in government hospitals and was reported by India Today.
