Uttar Pradesh authorities have issued a state-wide alert after several major rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, surpassed their danger thresholds amid heavy rainfall.
Uttar Pradesh’s Disaster Management Department announced a state‑wide alert on Tuesday after hydrological data showed that the Ganga, Yamuna, and other tributaries had exceeded their danger thresholds.
The alert, issued at 10 a.m., calls for heightened vigilance in flood‑prone districts such as Varanasi, Allahabad and Kanpur. Local authorities are preparing emergency shelters and coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force.
Meteorological reports indicate that the region has received 200 mm of rainfall in the past 48 hours, contributing to the rapid rise in river levels. Officials urge residents to stay away from low‑lying areas and to heed evacuation orders if issued.
The state government has also requested the central government for additional resources to support rescue and relief operations.
Residents in affected districts are advised to monitor local radio and official social media channels for real‑time updates.
