The Power Secretary announced that the Union Territory administration will supply 200 free electricity units to eligible consumers across Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir's Union Territory administration has decided to grant 200 free electricity units to eligible households and businesses within its jurisdiction, the Power Secretary confirmed in a statement to Kashmir Life. The move aims to alleviate the financial burden on consumers amid rising energy costs and to ensure uninterrupted power supply during peak demand periods.
The scheme will be implemented through the state electricity board, which will automatically credit the free units to consumers' meters based on their consumption patterns. Details regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures and the duration of the benefit were not disclosed in the initial announcement.
Officials said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to social welfare and energy security in the region. They also indicated that the scheme could be reviewed and extended depending on its impact and the fiscal situation.
The Power Secretary urged consumers to cooperate with the electricity department for smooth rollout and warned against any misuse of the free units. The announcement comes as part of a broader effort by the UT government to address public concerns over rising utility expenses.
