U.S. forces struck Iran's Larak Island on Sunday after detecting IRGC units preparing rocket‑mounted sea mines, prompting Tehran to vow a response.
U.S. military assets carried out a strike on Larak Island, situated in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday. According to U.S. officials, surveillance systems identified members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) positioning launchers to fire rockets equipped with sea mines.
The operation was aimed at neutralising the imminent threat posed by the mine‑laden rockets, which could have jeopardised commercial shipping lanes in the region. The strike was reported to have hit the launch sites without causing civilian casualties.
Following the attack, Iranian officials in Tehran condemned the action and announced that Iran would formulate a response and punishment for the United States, underscoring heightened tensions in the Gulf area.
