A software engineer working in the United States was taken into custody at Chennai International Airport after a police investigation revealed a large-scale hoax bomb threat email campaign. The case involved 1,500 emails that were sent to multiple recipients, all claiming that a bomb threat had been issued against the airport. Chennai Police, in coordination with the Central Bureau of Investigation, seized the engineer’s electronic devices and began a forensic review of the emails. The individual has been placed under investigation for potential violation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and related cybercrime laws.
