A man who recently returned from the United States says his wife and her family compelled him to live as a 'ghar jamai' and filed a false case against him, reports The Times of India.

A man who had been residing in the United States and returned to India has lodged a complaint alleging that his wife and her parents forced him to stay at their home as a "ghar jamai". According to the claim, the family also registered a legal case that the man describes as baseless and intended to pressure him.

The complainant, who has not disclosed his name publicly, says the arrangement was imposed without his consent and that he was made to bear the social stigma associated with living under his in-laws' roof. He further alleges that the false case was filed to coerce him into compliance with the family's demands.

Law enforcement officials have taken note of the allegations, but no formal charges have been recorded as of now. The matter is expected to be investigated under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code concerning false accusations and undue harassment.

The case highlights the growing number of cross‑border returnees confronting domestic disputes that intersect cultural expectations and legal frameworks in India.
