UPSC Sends Panel to Punjab, New DGP Appointment Remains Uncertain

✍️ Hindustan Times 🗓 28 Jul 2026, 10:04 AM 👁 1

Three weeks after the Union Public Service Commission forwarded a recommendation panel to Punjab, the state government has yet to announce a new Director General of Police, leaving officials and the public in suspense.

On a recent date, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) forwarded a panel to the Punjab government to recommend a candidate for the post of Director General of Police (DGP). The panel, chaired by a senior former officer, is expected to submit its recommendations within the next month.

Despite the panel’s submission, the Punjab government has not yet announced a new DGP. This delay has left the police force in a state of limbo, with senior officers awaiting a decision.

The absence of a confirmed DGP raises concerns about continuity in leadership and the potential impact on policing operations across the state.

Officials hope that the government will act swiftly to finalize the appointment, thereby restoring stability and confidence within the police hierarchy.
