A candidate who had previously appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati and failed the UPSC exam was apprehended by police for involvement in a jewellery theft.
Police officials announced the arrest of a man who had earlier taken part in the television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati and later failed to clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. The suspect was taken into custody after investigators linked him to a recent jewellery theft that shocked local dealers.
According to the investigation report, the accused had a documented history of attempting the UPSC civil services exam but did not succeed, prompting him to seek alternative means of income. His brief stint on the popular KBC program, where he was eliminated in the "Fastest Finger First" round, was also highlighted in the police briefing.
Authorities say the stolen items, comprising gold ornaments and diamond pieces, were recovered from a storage locker that the suspect had rented under a false identity. The police have filed a charge sheet alleging possession of stolen property and have begun the process of returning the recovered jewellery to their rightful owners.
The case is being handled by the city’s crime branch, which has warned that any attempt to conceal or sell the stolen goods will attract stringent legal action. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to trace any additional accomplices involved in the theft.
