Unexpected rain in Mohali has stopped paddy harvesting and is expected to push back the sowing schedule for potatoes.
Unseasonal showers swept across Mohali this week, prompting farmers to suspend ongoing paddy harvesting operations. The sudden downpour made field conditions unsuitable for mechanised cutting, forcing workers to pause work until the soil dries.
The same weather pattern is set to affect the upcoming potato sowing season. With the ground still water‑logged, agricultural advisers warn that planting could be delayed by several days, potentially compressing the crop’s growth window.
State agricultural officials are monitoring the situation and have advised farmers to adopt moisture‑management practices where possible. Prolonged delays may impact overall yields, but authorities remain optimistic that the crops can be salvaged with timely interventions.
