Authorities in Jaipur's Chitrakoot area confiscated unlicensed medicines valued at Rs 1.40 lakh, including phenobarbitone tablets, and sent three samples for laboratory testing.

The Rajasthan drug control department carried out a raid in the Chitrakoot locality of Jaipur, uncovering an unlicensed pharmaceutical operation. Inspectors seized medicines amounting to approximately Rs 1.40 lakh, a sum that reflects the scale of the illegal stock.

Among the confiscated items were phenobarbitone tablets, a controlled anti‑epileptic drug that requires a valid licence for distribution. The presence of such a medication highlights the potential public‑health risks posed by unregulated trade.

Three different drug samples collected during the operation have been forwarded to a certified laboratory for detailed analysis. The investigation is ongoing, and further action will depend on the test results and any additional evidence of illicit distribution.

Local officials have reiterated the importance of strict compliance with licensing norms to safeguard consumers and maintain the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain in Rajasthan.
