Union Minister Bhupender Yadav inspected Gujarat's mangrove conservation programmes and inaugurated a GIS‑based portal to map and monitor the state’s mangrove ecosystems.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav visited Gujarat to assess the progress of the state's mangrove conservation initiatives. During the visit, he highlighted the ecological importance of mangroves in coastal protection, biodiversity preservation and carbon sequestration.

The minister officially launched a Geographic Information System (GIS) portal that will provide real‑time data on the location, health and extent of mangrove forests across Gujarat. The portal is expected to aid forest officials, researchers and policymakers in planning restoration projects and tracking illegal encroachments.

State officials said the digital platform will integrate satellite imagery with ground‑level surveys, enabling more accurate monitoring and faster response to threats such as pollution or unregulated development. The launch underscores the central government's push for technology‑driven environmental management.

Bhupender Yadav urged local communities and stakeholders to cooperate with the new system, emphasizing that sustainable mangrove management is vital for the livelihoods of coastal populations and for mitigating climate‑related risks.
