Ujjain Ravana Dahan Plans Face Legal Notice from All India Youth Brahmin Society

The All India Youth Brahmin Society has issued legal notices to four committees organizing the October 20 Ravana Dahan in Ujjain, demanding scriptural justification for the ritual.
Ujjain is set to host the traditional Ravana Dahan on October 20, a ritual that marks the culmination of the Dussehra celebrations across India. The event, organized by four separate committees, has drawn sharp criticism from the All India Youth Brahmin Society, which argues that the practice lacks a clear scriptural basis.
In response, the society dispatched formal legal notices to each of the four organizing bodies, requesting them to furnish the specific Vedic or Dharmic verses that legitimize the public burning of Ravana’s effigy. The notices warned that failure to provide satisfactory evidence could compel the society to approach the courts for an injunction.
Representatives of the organizing committees have so far not replied to the notices, prompting the Brahmin society to consider filing a petition. While some local officials have expressed a willingness to mediate, the dispute highlights the growing tension between traditional festivities and calls for religious accountability in Madhya Pradesh.
