The Ujjain Municipal Corporation removed sections of the Madina Mosque at KD Gate and a Daudi Bohra Jamaat building to make way for an 18‑metre wide, 2.2‑kilometre road expansion.
Ujjain’s municipal authorities have undertaken a road‑widening project that required the removal of portions of the historic Madina Mosque located at KD Gate, as well as sections of a nearby Daudi Bohra Jamaat building. The expansion aims to create a continuous 2.2‑kilometre stretch that is 18 metres wide, improving traffic flow through the city centre.
The demolition work was carried out under the city’s broader infrastructure upgrade plan, which seeks to alleviate congestion on key arterial routes. Officials said the affected structures were carefully surveyed before any removal to minimise damage to the remaining heritage elements.
Local residents and community leaders were informed in advance, and the municipal corporation has pledged to coordinate with religious authorities for any necessary restoration after the project’s completion. The widened road is expected to be operational later this year, providing a smoother transit corridor for commuters and commercial traffic alike.
