A family in Udaipur’s Gogunda area was fined ₹1.51 lakh by the local panchayat for conducting a prasadi ceremony in a temple, and a case has been filed against 11 members for alleged social boycott.
The panchayat of Gogunda, a jurisdiction in Udaipur district, imposed a fine of ₹1.51 lakh on a family for organising a prasadi (offering) ceremony inside a local temple without prior permission. The penalty was levied under the panchayat’s authority to regulate religious gatherings and maintain public order.
In addition to the monetary sanction, the panchayat filed a criminal case against eleven individuals linked to the family, accusing them of imposing a social boycott on community members who refused to pay the fine. The case cites violations of local norms that prohibit coercive exclusion of residents.
Officials from the panchayat said the action was taken to deter unauthorized religious events that could disrupt communal harmony. The family has not publicly responded to the allegations, and no further legal proceedings have been reported as of now.
