Forest officials have dispatched two trained Kumki elephants to safely capture the rogue elephant known as E-5 in Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department is mounting a rescue operation to bring the wild elephant identified as E-5 under control. The animal, which has been roaming near the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, posed a challenge to officials due to its size and unpredictable movements.
Two trained Kumki elephants from the Bandhavgarh area have been airlifted to the site. Kumki elephants, known for their calm temperament and ability to guide or restrain rogue elephants, are being used under close supervision of forest staff.
The team plans to approach E-5 with the Kumkis, aiming to coax the animal into a safe enclosure without causing injury. Continuous monitoring through ground personnel and drones will support the effort, ensuring both human safety and the well‑being of the elephant.
If successful, the operation will demonstrate the effectiveness of traditional wildlife management techniques in modern conservation efforts in central India.
