Two teenagers went to Arthar Ghat on the Burhi Gandak River in Muzaffarpur for a water‑offering ritual and were swept away by the fast current; rescuers have recovered one body while the search for the other continues.
Muzaffarpur police reported that two adolescents entered the Arthar Ghat on the Burhi Gandak River to perform a traditional water‑offering ceremony. While they were engaged in the ritual, the river’s swift current pulled them under.
Rescue teams from the district administration reached the site promptly and recovered the body of one of the teenagers. The second teen remains missing, and a coordinated search operation involving police, local volunteers and river patrols is underway.
Authorities have cautioned the public about the dangers of performing such rites in fast‑moving water, especially during periods of high flow, and have urged families to exercise greater caution during religious observances near rivers.
